Cash Saving Shopping Tips For Essentials

As the unemployment rate continues to rise towards that ten percent range you get the sense that everyone is looking for ways to save money especially when it comes to their shopping habits. I know just in our family the amount of extra shopping and browsing while in the stores has changed dramatically in the last year. In particular we have put into practice a lot of money saving shopping tips that we have either learned through friends or seen on the internet.

If you do a quick search on Google for tips to save money while shopping you will no doubt find some money saving ideas that you have most likely never thought of. Believe there are plenty of ideas out there, we have looked and continue to look because we are constantly finding new angles on saving cash while shopping for the essentials.

So why not be like everyone else that talks about shopping tips and saving your hard earned dollars for another day and share a couple of money saving ideas that we have put to good use just in the last year. First of all I love ice cream as I am sure most of you out there do as well. How often do you see that “special deal” on your favorite ice cream brand to get two for five bucks? Now be honest do we really need to have two full containers of ice cream sitting in our freezer? No of course not but we go ahead and buy two because it’s that special deal of getting two for five dollars. Guess what buying one is only half the price and when the special deal is not in effect the odds are that the ice cream is still that same half of th five dollars. It’s just a selling technique by the stores to get that stuff off their shelves faster, stop falling for it and use some self control for goodness sakes!

Go shopping like a man would! You all know what I mean when I say that too ;-) In other words do your shopping with a game plan. You go in for what you need and don’t get distracted by the latest sales or special deals being pitched at the store. If you need to go in with a list then so be it, write down what your going shopping for and stick to the list! Do your clothes shopping for the season in one store, for example Old Navy is a perfect place. Why, because they are reasonably priced to start with and they have a store credit card that they offer to you at check out and if you get the card depending on the special they offer an additional 10% to 20% off on your days purchase. Sign up for the card get the extra discount then pay it off immediately and cut the card up. Of course the trick to saving money here is actually having the will power to pay that bill immediately and cutting up the card so you don’t use it at all.

Now these may be some obvious money saving tips to some of you but to others they could be things you may not have ever considered. What are some of the cash saving shopping tips that you have put into practice in just the last year due to the recession?
