Online Shopping Promises And Pitfalls

There are not that many of us nowadays that are not feeling the credit crunch of the financial market. Here we are only a few months from the biggest shopping season of the year and many people are wondering how they will manage to get their mortgage and gas payments let alone holiday shopping. So what shall we do about this situation, I say if you have not already start going frugal on all your purchases and make those pennies stretch as far as you can take them.

One way that people are turning to in droves to try and save some money is to do the majority of their shopping online. Paying that little bit of extra for delivery charges is looking a lot cheaper than driving to the store, thanks to the rising gas prices. Even grocery shopping online is becoming a must have feature for a lot of supermarkets as they try to stay competitive and find any edge they can as food prices continue to rise almost as fast as gas prices.

So as we all race to find the best deals online there is still a factor in deterring people from doing their shopping online and that is the possibility of identity theft and fraud. Let’s face it there are a lot of hackers and spammers out there and they are getting not only more daring but technologically advanced. We as consumers have to be on the lookout for so many online scams with phishing scams being a big culprit in identity theft. I don’t care how legitimate the email looks no company is going to contact you and request your personal information so don’t give it out to anyone. Because email addresses and graphics can be duped to look like the real thing, do a search on phishing scams you will be surprised how many big name companies have had their customers scammed by phishing emails.

So what are your thoughts on how the upcoming holiday shopping season is going to play out? Will this be the biggest online shopping season ever or are all retailers going to see a nose dive in spending? Please share your opinions and thanks for reading.
